As reported by the evacuees, more than (200) children from Hpung Ngai Yang village who evacuated from the Sumpiyang Village, Nsiyang Village and Wadat Village which are located in the Putao Region due to the intensified military situation, are facing difficulty in schooling as a result of stationeries scarcity and insufficient teachers.
An elder from the Hpung Ngai Yang IDP camp said that, “Currently we have (11) teachers who were supported and assigned by the Churches. Therefore, having only 11 teachers in the whole school is not enough for us, because there are many classes in a school.
There aren’t enough teaching aids and stationeries. In addition, as it is rainy season, the school constructions which were made as temporary shelters are starting to destructing and the transportation in the area are also rough.”
It is known that there were over (200) students from KG to grade ( level in the IDP Camp. In addition, even though there are 36 students who are going to attend Pre-KG class in the camp, the Pre-KG class have not able to open in the IDP camp yet.
As the process of opening the class from KG to grade ( was extremely difficult, to open the Pre-KG class is not easy in the current situation as well. However, the elder from the IDP explained about the process for opening the Pre-KG class as following.
“Currently, the school was open under the directive of KIA/KIO and the classes from KG to Grade ( are started running in the present. But the opening of the Pre-KG class is still in the process and we haven’t started running it yet.”
Similarly, the students who are attending the high school have to go to the school which exist in the KIO controlled area and some of the high school students are reported to go to Myitkyina town for their education.
It is stated that the students mentioned above are the evacuees who evacuated to Hpung Ngai Yang village, Sumprabum township due to the intensified armed-clashes in June. Additionally, it is noteworthy that, as the temporary schools’ shelters were constructed and school was opened in the IDP camp, the children are facing difficulty in schooling and they are in need of clothes, food supplies and medical supplies.
