Car drivers have reported that, as a result of the damage to Lido Road on the Myitkyina-Tanai highway and the skyrocketed price of fuel, the fare for transportation has surged from 30,000 kyats to nearly 400,000 kyats at present.

The Myitkyina-Tanai Lido Road, which previously charged a fare of 30,000 kyats per passenger, saw a significant increase to 100,000 kyats in September as a result of road damage. Unfortunately, the situation deteriorated further in October due to the absence of repairs, leading to an exponential rise in the fare to 400,000 kyats.

The Myitkyina-Tanai highway, located just over a hundred miles away, typically requires a six-hour drive under normal circumstances. However, currently, the journey has extended to one or two overnight stays en route. Drivers have indicated that they are unable to estimate their arrival time due to the state of the damaged road.

The Myitkyina-Tanai Lido Road has sustained damage due to the heavy rainfall that began in July, resulting in flooding and deterioration of various road segments. As of now, repairs have not been completed, and the road remains in a damaged state.

The road trip has been postponed due to damage sustained by the roadway. Consequently, the fare has risen, and travelers are resorting to the use of bulldozers and elephants to extract vehicles that are immobilized in the challenging muddy terrain. Furthermore, with a minimum of ten locations exhibiting road damage, the expense of towing a vehicle has reached nearly 1,000,000 kyats. As a result, the overall cost associated with the vehicle has escalated.

Due to the challenging condition of the road, which hampers vehicular travel, tourists are urging for the prompt improvement of the Myitkyina-Tanai Road.
