The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) joint forces have taken control of most key military council bases during the ongoing three-month battle for Bhamo in Kachin State. According to armed conflict news sources, they continue their offensive to capture the No. (21) Military Operations Command (MOC-21).
The battle began on December 4, 2024, and reached the three-month mark on March 4, 2025. Throughout this period, KIA joint forces launched multiple assaults, successfully seizing most military council camps.
During the operation, significant military council bases, including the 236th Battalion, 366th Infantry Regiment, 7006th Armored Regiment, 5014th Tank Regiment, and the 2nd Electrical and Mechanical Engineer Corps, were captured. Additionally, Bhamo Airfield and several city garrisons fell under KIA control.
In response, the military council, having suffered substantial losses, resorted to heavy airstrikes, drone attacks, and small arms fire while also deploying banned cluster bombs. Furthermore, the military has frequently used aerial bombs and drones to target non-conflict areas in Kachin State, resulting in civilian casualties and destruction of homes.
As of March 4, intense fighting continues near MOC-21, marking three months of relentless conflict between the two sides.
