The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied forces initiated an offensive aimed at seizing the town of Bhamo in Kachin State on December 4, and the operation remains intense as of December 10. According to local reports, numerous additional regions previously occupied by the SAC military camps have been successfully captured.

On December 9, the military camp of the SAC situated within Bhamo University was seized, and the KIA joint forces are currently conducting offensives against the remaining military installations in Bhamo and Mansi townships, including the police station, the airport, and the No. 21 Military Operations Command Headquarters.

The SAC is vigorously protecting the city of Bhamo, where the skirmish is intense, employing drones, artillery, and airstrikes, which has instilled fear among the remaining civilians. While casualties among civilians have occurred due to the armed confrontations on both sides, accurately evaluating the situation proves challenging as internet and telephone communications have been severed.

In the context of the continuing conflicts in Bhamo and Mansi townships, the central government of China extended an invitation to the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) for a meeting. Consequently, a delegation from the KIO, headed by Senior General N Ban La U, departed for Beijing, China, on December 8th.

Kachin political analysts suggest that the invitation extended by the Chinese government may serve as a means to halt the armed conflict in Bhamo and facilitate negotiations for the reopening of border gates currently held by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
