According to local residents, while most schools in Putao city have begun accepting enrollments, there are no enrollments in rural areas, making it impossible for students there to attend school.

A local school teacher mentioned, "Only a few students from the city have enrolled. No students from the rural areas have enrolled yet, so we can't tell when the school will open."

In addition to the current shortage of basic food items in the Putao area, there are difficulties in obtaining school supplies and stationery needed for the start of the school year, and there is also a lack of school teachers.

"The situation for students in Putao Town is worse than during the previous Covid-19 pandemic. I don’t think school supplies and stationery will be available as before. School teachers haven't been able to come to school yet. The local situation has made it very difficult for them," added the local teacher.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, basic education student enrollments began on May 21 in the Putao region. However, only a small number of students from the city have enrolled so far.

Currently, the road in the Putao area has been closed for nearly three months due to security reasons, and military tensions between two armed forces continue to escalate. Locals face many difficulties, including food scarcity, skyrocketing prices, transportation issues, and the closure of most student hostels.

Students from rural areas of Putao usually come to the city to attend school each year. However, according to a local elder, the current military situation may prevent students from attending school this year.
