Although the State Administration Council has announced a 20-day nationwide ceasefire, clashes continue in the vicinity of Waingmaw-La Myang village in Kachin State, with the sound of artillery fire persisting, according to local sources.
The Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the State Administration Council issued a statement yesterday declaring a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to April 22 to facilitate relief efforts for earthquake victims.
However, a resident of Myitkyina reported, “As of this morning, artillery fire can still be heard continuously.”
Military operation and reinforcement have been ongoing daily between the State Administration Council and its allied forces in the Waingmaw-La Myang area since early March and the clashes have also been intense with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA). Despite the ceasefire announcement, the military has not retreated and continues to launch attacks on the ground.

In response to the State Administration Council's statement, the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) government also released a statement saying that they would suspend offensive operations but would continue to defend their positions.
However, local sources reported that the SAC and its allied forces launched an offensive near Waimaw-La Myang village and the Light Infantry Battalion 58 base, using heavy artillery. The KIA retaliated, leading to direct clashes between both sides.
Although the ceasefire statement included provisions under Article 4 requiring both the revolutionary forces and the State Administration Council to adhere to the agreement, reports indicate that the SAC has disregarded the announcement and continues to launch offensives.
