Several key border trade gates between Kachin State and China—including Loije, Maija Yang, and Laiza—have reopened, allowing the resumption of cross-border commerce. However, the gates at Pangwa, Phimaw, and Kanpaikti remain closed as of today, according to local residents in Pangwa.

"The Maija Yang, Loije, and Laiza gates have officially reopened, but Pangwa, Phimaw, and Kanpaikti are still shut. Authorities say they will reopen soon, but we don’t know the exact date," a Pangwa resident said.

Since the officially closed border gates still require traders to pay high fees for goods transportation, Chinese products have become more expensive in the region.

"Because the gates aren’t officially open yet, we have to pay extra taxes to transport goods. The fees aren’t small, so Chinese products are now much more expensive," a local trader explained.

The Kachin-China border gates were closed in October 2024 due to political tensions. While some have since reopened, locals are urging authorities to swiftly resume operations at the remaining crossings.

The Maija Yang and Loije gates reopened on March 28, followed by the Laiza gate on April 1. Officials have stated that the remaining gates will reopen soon, though no specific timeline has been provided.
