The Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA) has reportedly established a presence within the premises of Nan Hkwin Hospital since 5:00 AM of April 5th.
According to local residents, “SNA forces have been stationed within the hospital premises, clad in black bulletproof attire layered over civilian clothing. Notably, these forces have been conducting tax collection operations along the thoroughfare adjacent to the hospital, stopping pedestrians and inspecting vehicles passing through. Travelers have been subjected to taxation, with one vehicle reportedly taxed 1,000 ks. Subsequently, the vehicle was allegedly detained by the SNA forces due to what was described as insufficient payment.”
Reports indicate that approximately 30 SNA personnel are currently stationed within Nan Hkwin Hospital. Remarkably, the hospital itself remains unopened, suggesting an unconventional utilization of the facility by the SNA.
In addition to their presence within Nan Hkwin Hospital, SNA forces, in collaboration with the State Administration Council (SAC), have been observed patrolling the surrounding neighborhoods and villages of Mohnyin Township. Witnesses have reported instances of civilian recruitment drives, with young individuals purportedly being apprehended and subjected to physical violence.
Moreover, it has come to light that the Militia checkpoint situated in Khyar Gyi Kwin Village, proximate to Nan Hkwin Village, operates under the jurisdiction of the Nan Hkwin Shanni Nationalities Army.
This development has sparked concerns among the local populace regarding the militarization of civilian infrastructure and the imposition of extrajudicial taxation practices, further intensifying tensions within the region.
