In the town of Hopin, located within Mohnyin Township, Shanni militias are reportedly conscripting young men for military service, with over 40 individuals detained in a single day, as reported by local residents.

“The Shanni Militia has yet to attain a force of 5,000 soldiers for their new recruitment initiative, prompting them to enlist all young individuals they encounter on the streets. Recently, their recruitment efforts have been concentrated in areas such as Hopin (5) Mile, Hopin Ywar Thit Gyi Village, the outskirts of Hopin town, as well as Mohnyin Outskirt and Mohnyin Pin Hel villages. It is widely reported that they are enlisting as many as 40 individuals in a single day, resulting in a significant depletion of available young recruits,” according to a local resident from Hopin Ywar Thit Gyi.

On January 24, a total of 40 young men were enlisted in a single day. The Shanni Militia prohibited the possibility of ransom for the newly recruited individuals, and promptly after their enlistment, they were transported to the 389th Infantry Regiment in Sar Maw for military training.

Local sources indicate that following a three-month period of military training, individuals were provided with weapons and tasked with alternating duties of collecting funds at various checkpoints.

In certain towns within Mohnyin Township, local youth report that the recruitment and conscription efforts by the SAC and Shanni militia forces have resulted in a persistent atmosphere of fear and anxiety among young individuals.
