According to local reports, the road between Putao and Sumpi Yang was closed again by the State Administration Council (SAC) on May 9th, following the joint attack and capture of the SAC’s strategic base camp in Sumpra Bum by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and K-PDF forces on May 5th.

Residents stated that after the KIA and K-PDF seized control of the Sumpra Bum Strategic Base Camp, the SAC's No (46) Infantry Forces launched an offensive from Putao and LungshaYang with approximately 100 troops around 11:00 PM on May 8th.

Furthermore, on May 9th, the SAC's No (46) Infantry Battalion returned to TangJa village from LungshaYang and re-closed the road.

Since May 9th, travel between Putao and Sumpi Yang Village has been impossible, and the transportation of rice from Putao to Lungsha Yang village and TangJa village has been prohibited.

Despite the Kachin State government's intention to sell fuel to local farmers, transportation has been halted, causing significant hardship for residents, particularly farmers unable to work.

Additionally, the closure of the Putao-Myitkyina highway and ongoing military tensions between armed forces have heightened concerns among locals about the challenges ahead.
