Residents of Waingmaw Township, Kachin State, fear that renewed clashes may soon erupt as the military junta increases its troop presence and military activities in the area.
According to local sources, since March 17, the junta has reinforced its military strength by deploying ten military trucks loaded with troops and equipment from Myitkyina to Waingmaw.
Additionally, checkpoints at Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 58 and Wu Yan People's Militia Gate, which had been reopened for travel since February 16, were shut down again around March 10, further escalating tensions.
Most of Waingmaw Township is currently under the control of Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied forces. While there have been no direct clashes in Waingmaw yet, residents remain concerned as the junta continues to conduct large-scale military maneuvers, which could soon lead to conflict.
Meanwhile, heavy fighting persists in Bhamo, where the junta has been airlifting troops, food supplies, and military equipment, prolonging the duration of ongoing battles.
