Myitkyina, located in Kachin State, has been facing extended power outages since January 14, with electricity being available for merely a few hours each day, as reported by the Buga Electricity Company.
The Buga Electricity Company, responsible for supplying electricity to Myitkyina and WaingMaw, is currently facing challenges in delivering power punctually due to a shortage in electricity supply. It has been announced that electricity distribution will occur in designated groups by neighborhood and will be limited to specific timeframes.
The wards in Myitkyina will be categorized into three groups: Group (A), Group (B), and Group (C). Each group will receive electricity on a rotating schedule for a duration of eight hours each day.
The present nationwide electricity supply rate is at an unprecedented low. Furthermore, Yangon, which contributes 45 percent to the overall electricity generation, will experience power availability for only eight hours each day, as stated by the SAC.
Consequently, residents have predominantly relied on charcoal and firewood for cooking purposes as substitutes for electricity. At present, the price of a bag of charcoal is 60,000 kyats, while a ton of firewood is approximately 100,000 kyats, and a truckload of lumber is priced at 300,000 kyats.
