Residents report that certain individuals in Htan Tabin Village, located in Mohnyin Township, are abandoning their homes and seeking refuge as the State Administration Council readies for conflict.
The SAC has been conducting unprovoked artillery fire since January 2nd. Additionally, several residents of the village have evacuated for their safety, following the SAC's directive to the village administrator to inform the villagers to evacuate by the 18th of this month.
“For five consecutive days, there has been relentless shelling of residential areas, targeting civilians with heavy artillery. We relocated at the instruction of the village administrator. However, the soldiers have warned us that if we leave, they will occupy our homes and set them ablaze. We are uncertain about whether we should proceed with our relocation,” stated a villager.
A villager from Htan Tapin further reported that the SAC forces had excavated trenches surrounding Htan Tapin village, laid landmines, and obstructed access to roads.
“The SAC excavated trenches and installed mines at the village entrances. They also obstructed all access routes, leaving only a single concrete road open at the main village entrance. Additionally, they barricaded the road adjacent to the university with barrels to deter vehicle access. Unfortunately, some villagers triggered mines while attempting to traverse the blocked road,” he stated.
Approximately 50 soldiers from the SAC and 50 militiamen from the Shanni group are maneuvering and concealing themselves in the vicinity of Htan Tabin village, leading to concerns among local residents regarding their safety.
