Recent reports from residents indicate a concerning increase in the number of disappearances involving young and middle-aged individuals in Myitkyina. The majority of those unaccounted for are men aged between 10 and 35, although there have also been reports of missing women.
Residents indicated that the missing youths might have been recruited, and it remains unclear which armed forces were responsible for their disappearance.
It is believed that some of the youths who are unaccounted for may have escaped from the location of the murder involving two teenage girls that occurred in early December, situated between the park and the statue of the general.
Several of the missing youths have been located. However, some of those still unaccounted for lack any means of communication with their family members. This situation has caused significant distress among families, as they remain uncertain about the whereabouts and well-being of their children.
