It has come to our attention that the residents of RamPu Ward are deeply concerned about their safety due to the rampant and open sale and use of drugs within their neighborhoods. They are earnestly requesting the relevant authorities to address and resolve this pressing issue as swiftly as possible.

According to local accounts, on May 7th, there was a significant incident involving drug users and dealers openly engaging in drug transactions in broad daylight between the main road of Rampu Ward and the Pay Sat Thu Social Relief Association Office’s Road. This brazen display of illegal activity was accompanied by verbal altercations and insults directed at the residents, leading to a state of unrest and commotion.

It is understood that drug trafficking has been a persistent problem in Rampu Ward for an extended period, and the residents feel that the relevant authorities have not taken adequate action to address the situation. The manner in which drugs are being traded resembles an open market, causing further distress and concern among the community.

Additionally, it has been reported that drug dealers aggressively solicit pedestrians to purchase drugs, even in residential neighborhoods. Furthermore, drug use is openly visible on the streets, in front of people’s homes. In some cases, drug users have been known to inject drugs into their genitals.

Consequently, the women and the residents of the neighborhood are concerned about their safety. Therefore, they have repeatedly requested that the drug users refrain from using and selling drugs in their neighborhoods. However, the drug users have disregarded these requests.

Furthermore, it is reported that after 2021, when the administrative system in Myitkyina, Kachin State, deteriorated, drug trafficking and use became rampant. Almost every neighborhood in Myitkyina is now affected by drug trafficking, yet the relevant authorities continue to ignore the situation.
