As said by the local residents, the trucks carrying goods have arrived in Putao despite being delayed due to heavy rainfall and flooding that damaged the roads. However, the prices of goods continue to rise.
The delayed trucks reached Putao on July 9th, and even though the goods have arrived, their prices have not decreased and are instead increasing further.
A local resident of Putao stated, “More than 80 trucks have arrived in Putao since yesterday. I observed the unloading of goods in the city, but prices have not reduced yet; they are actually rising compared to before. Additionally, we have received information suggesting that the roads may be closed from next month due to the unstable political situation, which would exacerbate the challenges faced by Putao residents.”
Following the closure of the Myitkyina-Putao highway for over three months due to clashes between the two armed-forces, the prices of goods escalated significantly. The road was temporarily reopened after June 10th, but subsequent heavy rains caused mountain collapses, landslides, and bridge damage along the highway, necessitating its closure once again.
On July 3rd, the NSut Bridge, situated between Myitkyina and Ti Yang Zup Village, sustained damage due to flooding. Consequently, landslides and mountain collapses have occurred in multiple locations along the Myitkyina-Putao road, resulting in road blockages and hindering local travel.
