A report states that around 300 residents of Chan Maw Khung, Chiphwi Township, protested on October 8th against the joint operations of KIA/PDF forces in Kachin Special Region (1).
During the protest, demonstrators held up a vinyl banner that read: “Prevent Genocide. KIA/PDF terrorists are not welcome. Do not take lives for greed. Let us continue our education. Civil war is unnecessary. We reject KIA/PDF for destroying peace.”
Both parents and students were involved in the protest.
Since September 29th, Kachin Special Region (1) has been under attack by KIA forces. In early October, both Chiphwi Town and Salaw Town were completely seized by KIA forces. On October 3rd, they captured the 11-mile SAC checkpoint on Pangwa road. Reports indicate the intense conflict in the Pangwa area is escalating.
