As per a local social relief organization, a passenger vehicle traveling from Mandalay to Myitkyina encountered a landmine near Ta-Ong Village on the Shwe Bo and Kyauk Myaung Highway in the Sagaing Region. Regrettably, this incident resulted in the loss of two lives and injuries to two other passengers.

A driver provided the following account: “A Kachin MinThar passenger bus traveling from Mandalay to Myitkyina encountered a landmine at approximately 9:00 AM this morning. Tragically, one passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while another succumbed to excessive bleeding. Two additional passengers sustained severe injuries. Due to weak phone signals in the area, we are actively working to establish contact with their families.”

Historically, the Mandalay-Myitkyina highway traversed through Mandalay, HtiChyaik, and Inndaw. However, due to intensified clashes between two armed groups, the HtiChyaik highway routes are currently blocked. As a result, travelers are compelled to utilize the Shwe Bo and Kyauk Myaung highway.

A passenger expressed concerns regarding the safety of traveling along the Union Road, which serves as the Myitkyina-Mandalay highway, due to ongoing clashes near the border between Sagaing Region and Kachin State.
