Reports indicate that on October 16 at 10:00 a.m., internet shop owners in Myitkyina City, Kachin State, were summoned by No. (2) Police Station for a meeting.

During the meeting, police officers requested shop owners to remove their signboards and questioned them about the satellite and internet services they use, in response to the growing number of internet shops in the town. Additionally, officials from the No.(2) Police Station instructed the shop owners to collaborate in providing internet access for the station.

"They called us to set up Wi-Fi for the station's use. There were no arrests or demands for money. The only requirement was to take down our shop signboards. They also questioned us about which internet provider we use, whether K-net, IP Star, or Starlink," a Myitkyina resident who attended the meeting explained.

It was further noted that all internet shop owners are expected to assist in ensuring internet access for the No. (2) Police Station. However, some shop owners, particularly those who recently opened without signboards and are struggling with low visitor turnout, find it difficult to contribute to the station's internet needs.

As of now, there have been no similar requests from No. (1) Police Station in the city center or No. (3) Police Station in Plana.

Since July 21, all telecommunications services (MPT, Ooredoo, Mytel, and Atom) have been suspended in many parts of Kachin State, including Myitkyina, where internet access remains disrupted. Shops currently rely on IP Star and Starlink services, paying fees for internet access.

Recently, K-net introduced a service offering WiFi access for monthly fees ranging from 700,000 MMK to 15,000,000 MMK, leading to a surge in the number of internet shops in the area.
