The Basic Education High School in Myitkyina, Kachin State, will commemorate its centennial anniversary during the 2023-2024 academic year. The two-day celebration will take place on March 29th and 30th, 2024.
Established in 1924 as an English-Burmese middle school prior to World War II, the No. (1) Basic Education High School has reached a significant milestone of 100 years of operation in 2024.
This momentous occasion will be celebrated in conjunction with the esteemed institution that has provided educational opportunities for generations of students. The commemoration will serve as a tribute to the dedicated teachers who have imparted knowledge and guidance throughout the school’s history, including those who have passed away and those who continue to serve.
Notably, the school’s first headmaster was Mr. Shuffle Ton, a German national. The current headmistress is KD Seng Pan, a distinguished Kachin educator.
In accordance with historical documentation, the institution has garnered a distinguished reputation not only as an exceptional educational establishment that has cultivated numerous literary laureates, gifted individuals, and prominent figures, as well as countless educated individuals and responsible citizens, but it also holds a significant geographical position within AyeYar Ward, situated at the heart of Myitkyina.
In commemoration of the school’s centennial anniversary, a substantial stone pillar will be erected, accompanied by the establishment of a school history gallery. Additionally, various sporting events and musical performances will be organized and held on the 30th of March.
Furthermore, the members of the organizing committee for the school’s festivities have extended an invitation to former students, both local and international, as well as teachers and parents of students from diverse locations, to join and actively participate in the celebratory events.
