Nawng Hkying School Faces Severe Shortages in Classrooms and Teachers

School in Nawng Hkying village, Waingmaw Township, is grappling with significant shortages of both classrooms and teachers, leading to split schedules for students.

Local sources report that over 1,000 students, including those displaced by conflict, are attending the Nawng Hkying Village Basic Education School. Due to insufficient classrooms and a lack of teachers, students have been divided into separate morning and afternoon sessions to manage the overcrowding.

Additionally, hundreds of students remain stranded in IDP camps, unable to attend school despite it being nearly a month since the school year began on June 1.

A resident highlighted the dual challenges: "With the increased number of students, there are not enough teachers to teach. Consequently, students have to study in shifts – some in the morning, others in the afternoon."

The situation is exacerbated for students from Waingmaw Town No. 1 Basic Education High School, who have not received transfer certificates and therefore cannot enroll in the Nawng Hkying school. Approximately 400 IDP students are unable to attend school due to these enrollment barriers and the ongoing shortage of classrooms.

The community continues to face significant educational challenges as it seeks solutions to accommodate all students and provide adequate learning environments.
