The National Unity Government (NUG) has released an official statement regarding the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28. As of the evening of March 31, the confirmed death toll has risen to over 2,418 nationwide, with many more people still missing.
According to NUG's statement, the earthquake caused significant casualties across multiple cities: over 700 deaths in Amarapura, more than 600 in Sagaing, and upwards of 300 in Naypyidaw, with many more fatalities reported in other locations.

The aftermath of the disaster has brought numerous challenges, including disruptions to electricity, internet services, transportation, and security. Shortages of essential supplies such as food and fuel have also been reported, leading to rising prices and an urgent need for humanitarian aid.
NUG stated that rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing in areas under its control, including search and rescue operations, water supply restoration, and the clearing of debris from monasteries, religious buildings, and residential homes.
However, in some areas of Mandalay Region, military forces have reportedly carried out artillery attacks, posing significant security risks to relief efforts. Additionally, aftershocks continue to shake the affected regions, forcing many residents, including those whose homes remain standing, to sleep outdoors. There is an urgent need for temporary shelters and protective coverings.
By March 30, the earthquake had damaged or destroyed 13,411 houses, 157 pagodas, 52 mosques, 71 churches, and 43 roads, according to NUG’s report.
