Motorists are aware that the Myitkyina-Mohnyin Road is lined with numerous toll gates operated by the SAC, which poses challenges for both the traveling public and drivers utilizing this highway.
“As the vehicle began its journey from Myitkyina, the first toll gate was encountered near the AyarWon gas station. After departing from Myitkyina, another toll gate was located at Nan Kyo Bridge. The route included six checkpoints at the Myitkyina Toll Gate, one toll gate at Ake, five checkpoints at the 21 Mile Toll Gate, two toll gates at Nammati, six toll gates at Mogaung, and additional toll gates at Sar Maw, Taung Ni, Pin Baw, NanKhwin, and the entrance to Hopin town. Consequently, the total toll fees amounted to 35,000, requiring passage through 22 toll gates to reach Mohnyin. Furthermore, the situation is exacerbated by the high costs associated with vehicle repairs,” as expressed by a motorist traveling from Myitkyina to Mohnyin.
A local source has reported that the toll gates along the Myitkyina-Mohnyin road are manned by soldiers affiliated with the SAC, who reportedly exhibit rudeness towards passengers during the registration process.
The 28-year-old female traveler stated, "I traveled to Myitkyina for a short visit to see my relatives from Mohnyin. Upon arriving at the entrance checkpoint in Mogaung, I was subjected to an interrogation regarding my National Registration Card by the SAC. Their manner of speaking was disrespectful towards women and quite rude. They inquired about my age, my educational background, and posed irrelevant questions. Currently, I am required to pay 60,000 for the car fare to journey from Myitkyina to Mohnyin, which is merely 105 miles apart."
It is reported that cargo trucks and fuel trucks incur charges ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 kyats, while a fee of 5,000 kyats is imposed as wheel taxes at the toll gate located at the town's entrance checkpoint.
