Approximately 500 vehicles are immobilized on the Myitkyina-Mandalay highway as a result of the road's indefinite closure. Furthermore, numerous travelers are left stranded, as reported by drivers of the Myitkyina-Mandalay bus service.
All travelers are experiencing hardships, primarily due to the cancellation of significant appointments. Some individuals who intended to attend their parents' funerals are unable to do so. Students preparing for exams find themselves unable to proceed, while traders are incurring losses as their goods spoil. It is evident that everyone is encountering challenges, remarked a driver stranded in the Inndaw region.
Motorists have reported that the road has been closed indefinitely by the PDF since February 18, following conflicts between the Shanni Militia and the K-PDF in Inndaw Township. According to these motorists, over 500 vehicles have been stranded for more than a week.
Numerous vehicles are reportedly immobilized, leading to the spoilage of various vegetables and food items they transport. Additionally, thousands of passengers stranded on the roads are encountering challenges in securing accommodations for rest and sleep.
“Both drivers and merchants are experiencing losses, and there is also concern regarding recruitment from the armed forces,” stated a driver who was stranded in Kantbalu.
The ongoing conflict in Inndaw and Kantbalu Townships has resulted in the blockage of the Myitkyina-Mandalay Highway, leaving both motorists and tourists stranded.
Furthermore, it has been reported that both the SAC and the KIA were engaged in the active recruitment of soldiers along the route.
