It is reported that the Myitkyina-Mandalay highway was closed indefinitely in August due to the intensified armed-conflict in Sagaing Region. In addition, as said by the car drivers, the mini cars can be travelled by passing through across the woods during these days and the journey takes two or three overnights on the way, depending on the military situation in the region.
According to a car driver, “There aren’t any buses or cargo trucks travelling along Myitkyina-Mandalay highway. Even mini cars which can be travelled, have to travel by passing through the woods. In the previous, the Myitkyina-Mandalay journey took just an overnight on the way. But currently, the roads are still closed and we have to travel across the woods. So, the journey takes 2 or 3 overnights as depends.”
