In Waing Maw Township, Kachin State, frequent clashes between the joint KIA forces and SAC forces occurred throughout September. Residents reported that militia forces were occupying civilian homes and using household belongings without permission.

The skirmishes primarily took place near the 58th Infantry Battalion Camp, the last remaining SAC military camp in Waing Maw Town, and along the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Furthermore, the SAC has been indiscriminately firing heavy artillery into Myitkyina town.

A local resident from Myitkyina shared, “Almost every night, between 9:00 PM and 11:00 PM, we hear the sound of heavy artillery shell explosions. They are targeting the Waing Maw area. Sometimes, we even hear them early in the morning.”

Reports indicate that after the KIA joint forces attacked and seized the No. 321 military camp of SAC’s Infantry Battalion in Shwe Nyaung Pyin village, Waing Maw, the Northern Military Command in Myitkyina continued to fire heavy artillery into the surrounding areas.

Besides the daily clashes, militia forces from Wu Yang village have been staying in civilian homes and using personal items as they please. A resident from Waing Maw mentioned that these actions are occurring in areas along the Waing Maw-Sadung highway, including Wa Shawng, Tang Bawng, and Labang villages, as well as other uninhabited areas.

These regions are also where local residents have been evacuating to safer locations due to the ongoing armed clashes since May.

Local sources suggest that the SAC is planning a counter-offensive to regain control of the military camps captured by the KIA, which may lead to more clashes in September. Additionally, the SAC and militia forces are preparing to mobilize at the prayer mountain in La Myang Village.
