Residents of Myitkyina, Kachin State, report that military troops have occupied school premises following the summer break, using them as operational bases.
A local from Kyayarpati told that military vehicles arrived after schools closed for the summer, and soldiers have since taken over the school compounds.
“Yes, they have occupied Kyayarpati Primary School in Myitkyina since early March. They have set up security measures and have been stationed there ever since. Some villagers even claim that night-time raids are being conducted. People walking near the main road feel unsafe and fearful,” the local source explained.
With intense fighting occurring in Bhamo, residents of Myitkyina are already on high alert. The military's presence in schools and other public areas has further heightened fears among the local population.
Additionally, at Bala Min Htin Bridge, soldiers are conducting daily security checks on cars and motorcycles. The military has also established security measures along the roads near Maina Primary School and its surrounding areas.
While some locals believe the heightened security is due to ongoing Grade 12 exams, others suspect that the troops may remain stationed inside school compounds even after the exams are over.
