In Kachin State’s Lawa village, located along the Tanai-Lido Road, military junta forces and their allied militias have once again entered the area, launching operations and reportedly setting fire to civilian homes, according to local sources.
Earlier this month, joint forces of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) had successfully repelled junta troops who had established a base and were conducting military activities in Lawa village. However, on April 15, the military forces re-entered the village, reigniting operations and burning down several residential homes.
Residents of the Lawa area have fled to nearby forests and mountains in fear of renewed clashes ever since the junta forces re-established a military presence in the region.
This assault comes despite the junta’s announcement of a temporary ceasefire lasting until April 22. Locals report that, in practice, military attacks continue unabated across multiple areas in Kachin State, involving aerial bombings, drone strikes, and heavy artillery shelling.
