In December 2024, the BNI-Myanmar Peace Monitor reported a total of 59 confrontations between the anti-coup armed groups and the SAC forces throughout Myanmar, along with 10 encounters involving the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) coalition forces in Kachin State.

The conflict has resulted in the displacement of 32,060 civilians from the regions of Magway, Sagaing, Bago, Tanintharyi, Karen, Kachin, and Mandalay, including almost 1,000 individuals from Kachin State.

In December, Kachin State experienced a tragic toll of 41 civilian fatalities and 153 injuries as a result of airstrikes, aerial bombardments, drone attacks, and heavy artillery employed during the conflict, positioning it as the state with the highest civilian death count in the country.

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has taken control of 14 towns within Kachin State, which include Sumprabum, Chipwi, Sadung, Myo Hla, Kam Paink Ti, Saw Law, N-jang Yang, Sin Bo, Mo Mauk, Phi Maw, Pang Wa, Daw Phong Yang, Loi Je, and Man Si.

At present, the KIA and its allied forces are actively engaged in efforts to seize Bhamo, the secondary capital of Kachin State, and have allegedly gained control over the majority of the city.

The military campaign targeting Bhamo and Mansi in Kachin State commenced on December 4, 2024. By January 8, all significant and minor military installations of the SAC in the Mansi region, including the town of Mansi itself, had been entirely seized.
