In Kachin State, Militia Forces under the control of the military council have occupied and stationed themselves in Laja Bum village along the Tanaing-Shinbwi Yang Road. Locals report that the militia has threatened to burn down the entire village if gunfire is heard within its boundaries.
“The Militia has taken over the entire village with nearly 100 troops. They have positioned themselves at every corner—occupying monasteries, schools, and all key locations,” said a frontline source.
Though villagers have not yet fled, they are growing increasingly fearful for their safety and freedom of movement, worried that clashes could erupt at any moment.
The militia’s occupation of Laja Bum began in late March. Meanwhile, in the nearby Dahkyet village, another large contingent of Militia Forces has also seized control in full force.
“Laja Bum is on the road to Shinbwi Yang, before reaching Tarum village. Beyond Tarum, Dahkyet village has also been taken over by the militia,” the source added.
In Dahkyet, militia forces have fortified their positions, taking over places of worship, schools, and even cemetery grounds.
Despite the military council’s April 2-22 temporary ceasefire declaration, airstrikes, drone attacks, artillery shelling, and troop movements continue daily across Kachin State.
