Local residents in Lung Sha Yang village, Putao Township, report that despite their cattle being killed by a landmine planted by the SAC No (46) Infantry Battalion and Local Militia Camp joint forces, they are being pressured to cover the cost of the landmine.

A loud explosion was heard from the SAC military camp in Lun Sha Yang village center around 8:00 AM on May 5th, leading to the discovery of a buffalo killed by the landmine.

According to a village resident, "Cattle deaths due to landmines are a recurring issue, with more than ten occurrences annually. The SAC's base camp, located in the village center, has laid landmines around its perimeter for security reasons, resulting in casualties among local livestock."

Despite repeated appeals from village officials to refrain from placing landmines near the SAC military camp, such measures persist for perceived security concerns.

Furthermore, the SAC and local militia joint forces not only deploy landmines in the village but also demand compensation from cattle owners for the cost of the landmine, according to a local resident.

"After identifying cattle owners, they demand compensation for the landmine cost, often exceeding twenty thousand kyats. Additionally, owners are prohibited from consuming the cattle killed by landmines, as the SAC seizes the remains," the resident explained.

Moreover, the SAC No (46) Infantry Battalion camp reportedly demanded over 200,000 kyats in landmine compensation from cattle owners, instilling fear among locals and leading to financial losses.

Local residents assert that despite the latest incident, cattle owners are still being investigated, with at least ten cattle deaths attributed to SAC landmines annually.
