In a tragic incident at the Sha-it Yang IDP camp under KIO control, severe landslides have caused significant destruction to homes belonging to internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Yesterday, on June 17, around 11:30 a.m., torrential rains led to the collapse of an earth embankment within the camp, resulting in the destruction of two houses. This catastrophe has not only damaged homes but also blocked pedestrian pathways, creating difficulties in transportation for residents.

The affected IDPs have shared their plight, stating that finding alternative living arrangements has become challenging following the landslide. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the residents.

Sha-it Yang camp, known for its susceptibility to landslides during the rainy season, has a history dating back to 2011 when IDPs sought refuge from the conflict between the KIA and the military.

Currently, those impacted by the collapsed embankment are seeking shelter with relatives and urgently require assistance with accommodation. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation unfolds.
