According to a KIA front-line report, the KIA joint forces launched an attack and successfully captured the SAC’s 298th Infantry Battalion stationed in Sawlaw Town at around 7:00 AM on October 2nd.
Earlier, on September 29th, the KIA joint forces had also taken control of Chipwi town, and by October 2nd, they had managed to capture the military base in Sawlaw town. "Sawlaw town was overtaken by the KIA joint forces this morning. The SAC forces have been carrying out nightly airstrikes around Chipwi. As a result, many locals are fleeing for safety, though the number of casualties from these conflicts remains unknown," said a front-line source.
The SAC forces have continued their aerial bombardments nightly in the Chipwi area, despite the KIA’s capture of both Chipwi and Sawlaw towns. However, the KIA remains cautious due to the ongoing threat of airstrikes.
Additionally, reports indicate that several offices in Chipwi, including the Administrative Office, Police Station, Hospital, and other government departments, are now closed. The KIO is reportedly stepping in to manage local administration.
Chipwi town is located in the Kachin Special Region (1) area, controlled by NDAK leader U Zahkung Ting Ying. The town has a population of 22,092, according to a 2022 census by the Chipwi administration office.
Following their offensive, the KIA joint forces have also taken control of several key areas, including Putao District, Sum Pra Bum Town, N Jang Yang Town in Myitkyina Township, SinBo town in Bhamo District, Momauk Town, and LoiJe town near the Chinese border, in addition to the recently captured Chipwi and Sawlaw towns.
