Rev. Dr. Hkalam SamSon was released by the SAC on April 17th, the first day of the Burmese New Year, but was re-arrested around 10:00 PM the same day.

The statement expresses concern for Rev. Dr. Hkalam SamSon, advisor to the Kachin Baptist Convention (council), who was initially sentenced to 6 years in prison but was granted amnesty on New Year's Day. However, he was detained again by the SAC at around 9:30 PM, causing worry among his family and the convention members.

It further notes that due to his advancing age and declining health, Rev. Dr. Hkalam SamSon requires medical attention, urging for his swift return home.

Dr. Hkalam SamSon was detained by the SAC at Mandalay DaDarOo International Airport on December 5th, 2022, while en route to Bangkok for medical checks. He was sentenced to a total of 6 years imprisonment across three sections of the law: 2 years under Section 17(1), 1 year under Section 505 (A), and 3 years under Section 52 (A).
