Myanmar's former Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) president, Dr. Hkalam Samson, has been detained once again by the State Administration Council (SAC) just hours after his release from Myitkyina prison on the occasion of Myanmar's New Year.
"Dr. Hkalam Samson was taken into custody around 10:00 PM yesterday, following a gathering of people at his residence. Officials claiming to be from the SAC arrived in civilian attire and detained Dr. Samson, promising his release the following day. However, as of now, he remains in detention" according to a source.
Dr. Hkalam Samson was released by the SAC at 1:00 PM on the Myanmar New Year’s Day, but at approximately 10:00 PM yesterday, the SAC arrived in civilian clothes and detained him again.
The SAC arrived at Dr. Hkalam Samson’s home in civilian clothes and said that he was being taken for further questioning and that he would be released the next day.
This recent detention marks the second time Dr. Hkalam Samson has been held by the SAC. Previously, he was detained at Mandalay Thadar Oo International Airport on December 5th, 2022, while en route to Bangkok, Thailand, for a medical check-up. His release came as part of an amnesty on April 17th, only to be detained again later that same day.
