In 2024, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied forces launched an offensive that resulted in the seizure of approximately 90 military camps belonging to the State Administration Council (SAC) in Kachin State, encompassing significant urban areas within the region.
The confrontations erupted between the two military factions across various regions within the territory of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA). By the year 2024, the KIA had successfully seized nine bases belonging to the State Administration Council (SAC), which included N Jang Yang and Sumprabum, located in the area of the KIA No. 1 Brigade.
The KIA joint forces have successfully seized five military camps belonging to the SAC in the KIA No. 2 Brigade area, thirty-six camps in the KIA No. 3 Brigade area, eight camps in the northern Shan region, fourteen camps in the KIA No. 5 Brigade area, and all military camps located in the cities of Chipwi, Saw Law, PangWa, Lagwi Taung, Phimaw, Galan, and Kam Hpant within the KIA No. 7 Brigade area.
The KIA has also taken control of SinBo town, located within the KIA 8th Brigade region, and has seized the majority of the SAC's military installations along the Sagaing border adjacent to the railway line, including (11) SAC’s military camps operated by the SAC in the KIA 9th Brigade area.
In 2024, the armed conflict escalated significantly across the majority of regions occupied by the KIA brigade, resulting in the capture of nearly ninety SAC bases, including urban areas under SAC jurisdiction, by the KIA and its allied forces.
During the skirmish, it was reported that, in addition to the casualties, allied forces from the KPDF, AA, and KGF engaged in combat alongside the group.
A report from Kachin Human Rights Watch (KHRW) indicates that over the past year, the State Administration Council (SAC) in Kachin State has resulted in the deaths of 142 civilians, left 167 injured, and led to the arbitrary arrest of 219 individuals, primarily due to indiscriminate airstrikes and artillery bombardments.
