Local residents are urging officials to intervene against entrepreneurs engaged in gold mining along the main road of Mai Naung Village, which serves as a route for public transportation, and employees accepting bribes in Inn Daw Gyi Region, Kachin State.
According to a resident's report, the main road connecting Mai Naung village to the surrounding farms has suffered damage due to ongoing gold mining activities.
Residents are calling for action against both the entrepreneurs and certain authorities involved in gold mining along the main road, which is vital for public transportation.
Moreover, it has come to light that the entrepreneurs purchased the mining rights for the main road area for over twenty thousand lakhs without the consent of the local community.
An anonymous resident revealed to Pajau media, "The village administrator of Mai Naung Village received substantial sums during the transaction for the road area. Three gold entrepreneurs acquired the rights to mine in the area for over twenty thousand lakhs."
Despite previous assurances from the gold industry to contribute to local development in response to damages caused to drains, lakes, and rivers by mining activities, effective measures have yet to be implemented.
Furthermore, excessive gold mining in Mai Naung Village has resulted in significant damage to the ecosystem, flooding, and the depletion of Inn Daw Gyi Lake. Therefore, residents of Inn Daw Gyi are demanding that authorities take action in the best interests of the local community.
