In Bhamo, where the conflict is fierce, airstrikes persisted until last night, resulting in the destruction of several homes belonging to local civilians.
On the evening of December 10, a fierce armed confrontation occurred between the State Administration Council (SAC) and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in Bhamo, resulting in the destruction of several civilian residences as a consequence of SAC airstrikes.
A local who managed to escape from a family caught in the conflict expressed, "I am unable to reach my family, and I am deeply concerned. In addition to my inability to contact them, my home has been consumed by fire."
Numerous evacuees have reported that significant portions of Bhamo have been ravaged by fire, notably including Bhamo Market, along with several residences in the (3) Mile Ward and (2) Mile Hin Gyan Ward that were also consumed by flames.
The disruption of phone and internet services in Bhamo Township has hindered Pajau Media's ability to conduct a thorough investigation into the extent of damage to residences and the number of casualties.
The SAC has been conducting intense airstrikes in Bhamo since December 4, with significant bombings occurring the night before.
Residents who have been freed report that there could be approximately 100 civilian casualties resulting from airstrikes and artillery bombardments during the conflict; however, this information remains unverified due to challenges in communication.
At present, the majority of residents have relocated to safer areas; however, it is reported that some individuals remain trapped in Bhamo amidst the ongoing skirmishes.
The KIA has reportedly initiated an offensive against the SAC forces, successfully seizing several locations, including the police station, the general office, and the Bhamo University of Technology, where the SAC forces were stationed. This occurred during a confrontation that lasted nearly a week between the two armed groups.
