IDPs displaced in Ingan Village, Naung Hkring ward who are currently staying in the Naung Hee IDP camp are facing accommodation challenges due to heavy rains flooding the camp since yesterday.
The IDPs had constructed a hundred-foot-long shelter tent on the soccer field of Ingan Village, where they have been living collectively. However, recent rains have caused flooding around the camp, exacerbating their living conditions.
Since May 21st, the displaced residents have been relocating to the soccer field area, building tent shelters with the assistance of relevant organizations. The rainy season has brought additional hardships, with overflowing underground water and rain damaging the tents.
There has also been a significant increase in diarrhea cases at the Naung Hee IDP camp over the past week, coupled with issues in obtaining potable water. Plans are underway to dig a well near the camp to address these water problems.
A local resident mentioned, "In our village, there are only three good wells. During the summer, they dry up, and water becomes scarce. With the arrival of the IDPs, the population increase has strained the water supply. Now, with the rainy season, there's more water, making it a bit more manageable. Everyone has to rely on rainwater. A new well is being planned near the camp to support the IDPs."
Currently, the IDPs are using clean water provided by the Kachin Baptist Convention for drinking, and water from a nearby well for general use.
Approximately 1,000 people from around 200 households of Naung Hee IDPs have been displaced in Ingan Village due to the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) offensive against the State Administration Council (SAC) since early March.
