In a recent incident, the village of Nam Maw and Maw Lakin experienced significant damage to residential roofs due to a severe windstorm accompanied by large hailstones, comparable in size to eggs. The hailstorm also resulted in injuries to some residents.

The incident occurred on March 26th, approximately at 11:00 p.m. The windstorm and hail caused extensive destruction to the majority of houses in Nam Maw, impacting both residents and jade scavengers who were searching for jade at a nearby soil dump.

According to a local resident of Nam Maw, the aftermath of the storm has posed challenges for the villagers. The cost of tin roofs has increased, making it difficult for residents to afford repairs. Additionally, some individuals are facing financial constraints in addressing the damage to their homes. Furthermore, unwashed jade scavengers sustained injuries during the storm.

The village of Nam Maw, which comprises nearly 200 households, experienced significant damage to numerous houses due to the large hailstones. Other houses in the neighboring Sait Mu Village were also affected by the storm.

The Hpakant Township is prone to heavy rainfall and flooding, as well as frequent occurrences of strong winds and hail annually from the month of March.
