After the closure of Myitkyina-Mandalay Pyidaungsu highway, the goods in Myitkyina which are currently utilizing are shipped by the aircraft. Therefore, the prices of goods in Myitkyina township are skyrocketing.
It is known that the cargo trucks which transport goods to Myitkyina normally are stranded in the Sagaing region since August 17th. In addition, the goods in Myitkyina which are selling and utilizing at present are reported to ship by the aircraft.
According to the merchant from the Myitkyina Myo Ma Market, “The goods which are currently selling are the leftovers. There aren’t any goods arrivals. The tomatoes I’m currently selling are also the leftovers. There are some goods which are shipping by the aircraft within these days. But the prices of the goods are skyrocketing. So, I couldn’t even buy the goods with the prices which I frequently purchase for selling. And there aren’t enough goods arriving in Myitkyina even with the aircraft.”
The prices of the goods which are currently selling in the market are rising than before. A viss of tomatoes costs 20,000 kyats, a viss of garlics costs 20,000 kyats, a viss of onions costs 8,000 kyats, a viss of potatoes costs 4,000 kyats, a viss of cooking oil costs 17,000 ks and a viss of gingers costs 20,000 kyats.
Even though, the prices of the local beef and pork have only cost around 20,000 kyats per viss, the prices of some fish left in the market are selling at a price of 40,000 and 50,000 kyats per viss. In addition, the famous fish traders named Daw Arr Myaw and Daw Aye Kyi who sell fish at the Myitkyina MyoMa market closed their shop due to the shortage of fish in the region. Moreover, the local fish which fished from the Irrawaddy River are also reported to sell at the prices of 40,000 kyats per viss.
The prices of raw chilies per condensed milk can has risen to 3,500 kyats and 50,000 kyats per viss, and the prices of local chicken has risen too 40,000 kyats and price of CPs has rien to 20,000 kyats per viss.
Similarly, the prices of goods and fuel in Putao which is located at the north of Kachin State have skyrocketed due to the Myitkyina-Sumprabum-Putao road closure which was closed because of the intensified armed-clashes in the area. Additionally, the prices of goods are reported to be rising due to the shipping fees by the aircraft.
The routes to Kachin State that cargo trucks and goods entering are blocked due to the political instability which is currently happening in the Kachin State. Furthermore, the concerns of the locals are rising due to the skyrocketing prices of the goods, even though the goods are currently shipping by the aircraft.
