Residents of Myitkyina report that fuel prices in Myitkyina and Waingmaw cities have surged due to hundreds of trucks and fuel tankers being stranded in the China border, Kanpaiti town.

The increase in fuel prices is attributed to the blockage of fuel tankers and goods vehicles in Kanpaiti, a major border trade city, preventing their entry.

As a result, prices are rising in Myitkyina, and gas stations have been closed since yesterday.

Residents report that gasoline is being sold for up to 30,000 kyat per car and up to 5,000 kyat (1 liter) per motorcycle.

On June 11, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) launched an offensive and captured the military council camp on the Sadung-Kanpaiti highway.

Since then, the flow of goods has stopped, stranding hundreds of vehicles in Kanpaiti. Consequently, the prices of goods and fuel have risen not only in Myitkyina but also in Waingmaw.
