According to reports from local residents in Putao, gasoline has been unavailable for over a month in the region. Consequently, the price of gasoline has skyrocketed, reaching three times its previous rate, with one gallon now costing 100,000 kyats.

A farmer from Putao stated, "A bottle of gasoline was priced at 10,000 kyats just last week. However, it wasn't available at gas stations; locals resorted to clandestine exchanges among themselves. Moreover, fuel vendors showed little concern for the locals' plight. They ceased operations and sold fuel on the open market."

Previously, a gallon of gasoline was priced at only 60,000 kyats. Presently, the price has surged to nearly 100,000 kyats per gallon. This increase, along with diesel reaching up to 4,000,000 kyats per barrel and gasoline up to 5,000,000 kyats per barrel, poses significant challenges for farmers.

Local sources report that the closure of the Myitkyina-Putao highway, coupled with fuel shortages resulting from skirmishes, has compounded the difficulties faced by farmers and daily wage workers.

Moreover, it's noted that not only fuel prices have surged but also the cost of basic food items, rendering them inaccessible due to road closures. For instance, the price of an egg is reported to be nearly 1,500 kyats.

Furthermore, clashes between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the SAC forces in SumPraBum Town since March 8 have led to the indefinite blockage of the Myitkyina-Putao highway by the KIA on March 9.
