The Myitkyina-Putao highway closure due to the intensifying military conflict between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the SAC forces has resulted in fuel shortages for Putao Township residents, as reported by a local source.

Fuel rationing measures have been implemented, with gas stations limiting the amount of fuel dispensed per vehicle and plastic gasoline containers. The current fuel price in Putao Town stands at approximately 5,000 kyats per liter, leading to the closure of several major gas stations due to supply constraints.

Two prominent gas stations in Putao Town, Taing Kyaw and Zay Yar Min, have also adopted restricted sales for approximately a week. Notably, Zay Yar Min gas station has ceased sales to plastic gasoline containers, and even vehicles like motorbikes and cars are limited to 20,000 kyats worth of fuel per purchase. The majority of gas stations in Putao are currently experiencing fuel depletion.

The Myitkyina-Putao highway has been indefinitely blocked for nearly 11 days since the evening of March 8th, resulting in dwindling fuel supplies.

Furthermore, eggs, a staple food in Putao town, are also experiencing a severe shortage, with almost the entire town currently facing a lack of availability.

As of yesterday, eggs were priced at 1,000 kyats per pcs in Putao Town, but they are now completely unavailable. Fish prices have also surged from over 10,000 to over 20,000 kyats per viss, while beef prices have increased from over 20,000 to nearly 30,000 kyats per viss.

The ongoing armed conflict between two armed groups in Sumpra Bum Township continues to escalate, leading to the prolonged closure of the Myitkyina-Putao highway. Residents are concerned about the potential for an extended road closure, which could further exacerbate the supply shortages and price increases.
