As reported by a local resident, several gas stations in Putao that have been closed for over four months are now selling fuel at a price of 10,000 kyat per liter, resulting in extensive queues of locals eager to purchase it.

It has been confirmed that the Petro 7 gas station owned by local militia leader U TangGuTan from Putao and The TINE KYAW gas station commenced fuel sales at a rate of 10,000 kyats per liter, starting approximately at 9:00 this morning.

According to a local from LoneSut Ward in Putao, “At TINE KYAW gas station, one liter of gasoline is being sold at a price of 10,000 kyat per motorbike. At U TangGuTan’s Petro 7 gas station, one gallon (4 liters) is being sold for 40,000 kyats. However, due to the substantial queue, purchasing fuel presents a challenge.”

Following the road closure in Putao, the gas stations in the area have been closed for more than four months, citing fuel shortages as the reason. Consequently, with the reopening of gas stations in LongSut Ward, a significant number of individuals have formed queues along the road in anticipation of purchasing fuel.

The Myitkyina-Putao highway was temporarily reopened after June 10 with the consent of the two armed forces. However, the road was subsequently closed due to heavy rains, which caused landslides, mountain collapses, and road damage. Furthermore, the damage to bridges and roads has resulted in trucks carrying goods and fuel being stranded en route. It is also reported that the current price of gasoline in Putao has increased to 40,000 kyat per liter.

According to an employee from a gas station, the remaining fuel is being sold at a reasonable price to local residents, as it was during the temporary reopening of the road.
