The closure of the Nan Si Aung entrance gate has led to a significant increase in fuel prices in Mohnyin Township. Local residents reported to Pajau Media that the price hike is a result of hundreds of vehicles being stranded at the military council gate located at the Sagaing-Kachin border near Nan Si Aung village.
For nearly a month, vehicles have been unable to pass through the military council gate, causing fuel transport trucks to be stuck for an extended period. This has led to the closure of some gas stations due to a lack of fuel imports, while others remain open but without fuel available for purchase.
As a result, the current price of one liter of gasoline has skyrocketed to 7,000 kyats, making it difficult for locals to afford and use.
Similarly, the Kanpaiti road has been closed since June 11 due to military operations by both armed forces along the Waingmaw-Kanpaiti road, which caused a temporary fuel shortage in Myitkyina. Currently, one liter of gasoline costs 5,000 kyats.
Furthermore, the closure of the Nan Si Aung Gate between Sagaing Division and Kachin State has led to increased prices of basic food items and gasoline in Mogaung, Mohnyin, and Myitkyina townships.
On the other hand, the reopening date of the Myitkyina-Mandalay road remains unknown. Additionally, on June 24, the military council stationed near the Nabar intersection opened fire aimlessly, exacerbating the ongoing tension.
