The insufficient arrival of fuel tankers in Hpakant, Kachin State, has resulted in residents being unable to purchase their desired quantities of fuel at major gas stations. Furthermore, these gas stations are restricting sales to limited amounts, and the prices have surged dramatically, creating challenges for the local population.

The fuel shortage in Hpakant has resulted in the closure of the majority of company sites. Residents report that the remaining fuel vendors are imposing excessively high prices, with one liter priced at 20,000 kyats, and in certain areas, the cost can reach as much as 100,000 kyats per gallon.

In Hpakant, the majority of the local population primarily relies on motorbikes for transportation and commercial activities. Furthermore, the situation is becoming increasingly challenging due to the limited operating hours of large gas stations, which are only accessible in the morning.

Despite the cessation of fuel tanker arrivals in Hpakant since late November, jade mining and earthmoving trucks continue to function nearly as they did before. At present, the prices of fuel and various goods in Hpakant have surged significantly. As a result of the escalating cost of living, the general population is experiencing shortages of food.

As a result of the ongoing skirmishes, the Myitkyina-Mandalay highway has been closed, and the border trade gates are also shut, leading to shortages of fuel and various other goods in Kachin State.
