According to local residents, fuel has been transported twice a day to Putao Town by SAC flights since May 1st.

It is reported that U Khet Hting Nan, the Chief Minister of Kachin State, arrived in Putao on April 30th and announced plans to address the fuel shortage affecting local farmers by airlifting fuel.

After the Chief Minister's announcement, fuel has been transported by flight every day since the beginning of May, but the price of gasoline immediately increased from 15,000 Kyats to 35,000 Kyats per bottle.

According to a local religious preacher in Putao, "At the beginning of this month, the price of a bottle of gasoline in Putao has risen to 35,000 Kyats, and the SAC forces also said that they are transporting fuel by flight for the locals. In addition, they are also collecting the farm invoices from neighboring villages."

Although the SAC is collecting the farm invoices from the locals, they do not know how and in what form they are going to sell the fuel, and most of the locals are unable to buy it due to the rising price of fuel.

As continued by the above preacher, "No one knows what price and how much fuel will be sold per acre. From the day after the announcement came out, the prices of fuel have risen. It’s really disappointing that the administrative offices didn’t do anything about the fuel price. The gas stations that didn’t have any fuel before now sell the fuel with the higher price. The entrepreneurs who stored oil and the government are oppressing the locals. In fact, action should be taken against people who do these things," he said.

It is reported by the local residents that regarding the sale of fuel to farmers as announced by the Chief Minister of Kachin State, Khet Hting Nan, there haven't been any detailed instructions yet. In addition, as of May 4th, fuel was being transported by airlifting a total of 10 times, but until now, the fuel is still controlled by the SAC Department of Agriculture and has not yet been implemented.

According to the local residents, before the closure of the Myitkyina-Putao road, the highest price of gasoline in Putao was only five thousand kyats per liter until early March, but during the two months of the road closure, the price of gasoline has risen to nearly forty thousand kyats per liter.
