Local residents report that following a warning from KIO Chairman General N Ban La, urging the militia groups affiliated with the SAC to retreat and align themselves with KIO, several border guards and militia members chose to surrender.

Following the assault on Phi Maw town by KIA forces on November 2, they proceeded to seize Kanphan village on November 4. During the KIA joint forces' offensive towards Kanphan village, approximately 100 border guards surrendered their arms and conveyed to the KIA that the village could be taken without resistance.

Some members of the SAC forces and militia discarded their weapons into the river and fled away. Furthermore, video recordings surfaced on social media showing local residents in traditional attire greeting the KIA and allied forces.

Since late September, the KIA joint forces have initiated their offensive owards the region bordering China, which is currently under the jurisdiction of the border guard forces, successfully seizing numerous significant locations, including the city of Pang Wa.

There is presently a state of military tension between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the State Administration Council (SAC) in proximity to the last remaining Chinese border town of Kanpaik Ti. In response to this situation, the Chinese authorities have closed all border trade checkpoints. Consequently, it has been reported that the residents of the border region are experiencing significant hardships at this time.
