Due to substantial precipitation in the Putao region, the Hkrang Hka Creek experienced flooding, resulting in the inundation of the Dari Yang Village situated adjacent to the creek. Regrettably, over 10 residential structures belonging to local inhabitants were swept away by the overflowing water on May 30.

Presently, the displaced residents of Dari Yang Village have sought temporary shelter at the local church and the homes of residents in the designated flood evacuation area. In a spirit of solidarity, they have chosen to cohabitate and share their available food supplies. Consequently, there is an urgent need for the provision of essential food items and basic necessities.

The incessant heavy rainfall, characteristic of the monsoon season, compounded by the unexpected surge of stream water, has led to the flooding of villages and the submergence of residents’ homes. Regrettably, the number of individuals affected by this calamity continues to rise with each passing day.

According to local accounts, Dari Yang Village has historically attracted individuals from various regions who engage in gold mining activities. Over the course of more than ten centuries of gold mining operations, the waterways and terrain have undergone significant alterations. It is plausible that the heavy rainfall coincided with a sudden rise in spring water, exacerbating the flooding situation. Furthermore, the severity of this year’s flooding in the Putao region surpasses that of previous years.

The Dari Yang village, located in the Putao region, faces significant challenges in terms of communication and transportation, particularly during the rainy season. The recent floods have further exacerbated these difficulties, affecting not only the residents of Dari Yang but also those in Chiphwi and along the May Hka River.

In a separate incident, Myaw Maw Pa village in Chiphwi Town experienced a sudden overflow of stream water on May 29th, resulting in the destruction of local houses and the unfortunate loss of a 50-year-old woman. Additionally, a crucial bridge utilized by the inhabitants of the Chiphwi Saw Law region was swept away by the floods, severely hindering their mobility.
